PACC adoptionsDuring its three-day New Year, New Friend Adoption Party event Jan. 2-4, Pima Animal Care Center placed 233 pets in adoptive homes, nearly double the number of animals the shelter places in a normal weekend.

Heading to new homes were 232 dogs and cats and one potbellied pig. The event received a boost from PetSmart Charities®, which gave PACC a $4,000 grant to market the adoptions and waive fees.

“What’s really neat about this past weekend was we were not swimming in puppies and kittens,” said Karen Hollish, development director for PACC, “so a LOT of deserving adult dogs and cats went home.”

In addition, Hollish said area rescue partners and PACC foster parents took in about 60 animals, enabling PACC to place more than 300 pets over the three days. PetSmart Charities® donates $35 to PACC for every pet adopted. The shelter’s goal had been to place 200 dogs and cats into homes during the three-day event.

Pets were available to adopt from the shelter, 4000 N. Silverbell Road, and at the PetSmart store located on the southeast corner of Oracle and Wetmore roads.
