Pima Animal Care Center in June will join hundreds of shelters across the county and feature “Cat-tastic” adoption specials on cats and kittens as part of National Adopt a Shelter Cat month. All felines can be adopted for only $30, and will go to their new home with a goodie bag that includes a coupon for one free veterinarian visit.kitten

The efforts of PACC’s new Trap-Neuter-Return program with Best Friends Animal Society and PetSmart Charities have resulted in more than 1,300 cats altered and returned to their outdoor homes. Nonetheless, the shelter is still experiencing a wave of overcrowding and is taking in an average of 20 tiny orphaned kittens every single day. During May, more than 500 felines were brought to PACC.

“This occurs each year from late spring through the summer because many kittens are born out in the community from cats that have not been spayed or neutered,” said José Ocaño, director of shelter operations. “This is the perfect chance to come adopt one of our adorable pets and welcome a new family member.”

Ocaño said PACC has a large variety of felines for adoption to meet the needs of different homes. There are long and short hairs, calicos and tabbies, and older cats or kittens. It is important to adopt out as many felines as possible during June to alleviate the stress the cats and kittens feel in the crowded shelter.

These cat-tastic specials will be ongoing during June at the Shelter from noon to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, except for June 28, when the shelter is closed for deep cleaning. Additionally, PACC cats are available for adoption at PetSmart locations at the corner of Oracle and Wetmore roads and Grant and Swan roads every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
