The Pima County Board of Supervisors selected Sundt Construction, Inc., Tuesday as the construction manager at risk for the construction of the new Pima Animal Care Center.

PACCLast fall, Pima County voters approved a $22 million bond to build a new animal care center. The county built the facility in 1968 when the population was one-third of what it is today. Capacity for the shelter is 500 pets, but often houses as many as 1,000.

“Sundt was selected as the Construction Manager at Risk because of the strong team they proposed for the project,” said Michael Kirk, Pima County Facilities Management director. “Sundt’s project team has many years of experience on projects related to health care and veterinary medicine, utilizing the CMAR delivery method, LEED certified projects and projects requiring phasing due to occupied facilities.”

Kirk also noted Sundt Construction successfully completed both the Pima County Public Service Center and Emergency Communications & Operations Center within the last 3 years.

Architects with Line and Space, a local firm, are currently designing the new facility using input from PACC staff, volunteers and community members. A concept design for the new facility will be completed before the end of the year with major construction to begin next year.
