Thanks to the community’s support, Pima Animal Care Center had a record-breaking number of adoptions this weekend, sending 409 pets home with new families. During the free adoption event, from Thursday to Sunday, Oct. 1-4, PACC sent home approximately 251 dogs and puppies and 158 cats and kittens.

The adoption numbers include nearly 70 cats and kittens adopted from PACC’s offsite adoption locations at the PetSmart stores on Oracle and Wetmore, Grant and Swan and El Con Mall. This is the most cat adoptions PACC has ever achieved from an offsite location.  Funding from PetSmart Charities™ for PACC’s new offsite adoption program greatly contributed to this weekend’s success, said Kristin Barney, Chief of Operations for PACC.

“As the only shelter in our community that never turns away a pet in need, we typically take in more pets than we send out,” said Barney. “We are incredible grateful for the community helping us reverse that number this weekend.”

Despite the outstanding support received from the community, PACC continues to have an ongoing need for adoptions. This weekend, PACC took in nearly 200 stray or owned pets, sending the total number of pets at the shelter to approximately 650.

“We started off the week with some much-needed breathing room, but we still have several hundred more pets than our shelter can hold,” Barney said. “We will surely fill up again soon, so please come to our shelter or one of our offsite locations to adopt.”

Find your new best friend today! PACC has pets of all sizes, shapes ages and breeds, and its veterinarians will have even more puppies and kittens ready to place up for adoption this week. Those interested in adopting can do so by visiting the shelter, 4000 N. Silverbell Road, or any of the participating PetSmart’s locations. To see PACC’s adoptable pets, visit: www.pima.gov/animalcare
