On Saturday October 15, 2011 Pima County Board of Supervisor Chairman Ramón Valadez and City Council Member Richard Fimbres gathered together with family and friends at the Kino Community Center to honor the dedication and hard work of many of our residents who have pledged themselves to improving the quality of life in our community. Among the award recipients were neighborhood advocates and leaders of our faith-based community.  Many of our award winners have a lifelong history of leadership and commitment towards serving others.

For the first time at the Community Leadership Awards Ceremony, we also recognized 60 high school students who have shown outstanding leadership qualities at school and in their community. These amazing student-athletes from Sunnyside, Desert View and Sahuarita High Schools were able to maintain a 3.0 grade point average while excelling in their respective sports and volunteering in their community. It is always a proud moment to be able to recognize young people for their hard work and their commitment to the community and the world around them.
