El Tour de TucsonThe Pima County Board of Supervisors at its Sept. 3 meeting approved 5-0 a $280,000 contract with Perimeter Bicycling Association of America for El Tour de Tucson expenses, including traffic barricades and consulting services. The 37th annual event, sponsored by Banner University Medicine, takes place Nov. 23.

In the agreement, Pima County approved procuring traffic control services not to exceed $250,000 and provide up to $30,000 for private third-party consultant services for route layout. Perimeter will reimburse the County for the cost of both services.

In previous years, El Tour organizers have procured traffic control services through various vendors. Obtaining these through the County instead will ensure consistency in traffic control equipment and services used, thus improving the safety of traveling motorists and bicyclists.

The Banner – University Medicine El Tour De Tucson is set for Saturday, Nov. 23. This event draws over 10,000 participants each year, including many out of state riders, bringing about $5-6 million in revenue to the city and County.
