Staff at Pima Animal Care Center has been scrambling to find space for the cats and litters of kittens coming in daily to the shelter – to the point that we’ve been cobbling together excess space where we usually house our dogs. none

Our partners in saving animals also are struggling with the same phenomenon. The Humane Society of Southern Arizona, likewise, is full and has halted intake of cats through Sept. 22. And several of our rescue partners similarly have no room.

As an open admissions shelter that accepts all animals free of charge, we are the near-to-last resort for deserving pets needing shelter while waiting for loving homes.

You are the last resort.

If you have room in your heart and in your home for one of our cats, we’ve got purring machines in all shapes and sizes. Adoption fees for our feline friends over 1 year of age will be waived through Saturday, Sept. 28. Kittens will be $25. All cat adoptions include spay/neuter surgery, as well as microchipping and vaccinations.

“Cats make great pets because they provide hours of amusement and companionship, but they also don’t require large backyards and they’re quite self-reliant for people with active lifestyles,” said Shelter Manager Justin Gallick. “While having so many cats in the shelter is a challenge for staff, it’s a great time for folks looking to add to their household since we have such a full selection.”
