El Camino del Cerro Landfill is a historical groundwater contamination site that has been undergoing remedial investigation, feasibility studies and remediation under the Water Quality Assurance Revolving Fund (WQARF) process administered by Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ). This project addressed one of the remedies identified in the Landfill Operable Unit (LOU) feasibility study, placing additional landfill capping material on the existing landfill surface to prevent precipitation from contacting the landfill materials and creating leachate.  Approximately 35,000 cubic yards of soil were excavated, transported, and placed on top of the existing cover at the site. Up to four feet of additional soil cover were placed over the landfill surface.  After the cover soil was placed, the whole site was sprayed with hydroseed to re-establish native vegetation.
