Dog Parks

Pima County parks aren’t just for people. Since many people like to bring their dogs to our parks, the county park system has created places specifically for people and their pets to enjoy time outdoors together.

dog runningDogs are only allowed off-leash within specific areas designated for unleashed dogs. Urban and river parks require dogs be on-leash at all times unless they are within dog play areas. Most open space and natural resource parks do not allow dogs on the property, such as Tucson Mountain Park where the potential conflict between dogs off-leash and wildlife is greatest. Dogs can disrupt natural wildlife habitats being protected in the park. However, there are some open space properties with minimal restrictions because of the lack of facility development and authorized use of dogs for hunting and other sporting purposes.

Leash rules are for the safety of your pet and other park users. Keeping your pet under control on a leash is the best way to prevent injuries to your pet from wildlife, plant hazards, or other dogs and helps protect natural wildlife habitat. Keeping your pet leashed is also a common courtesy to other park users. Keeping your dog on a leash will ensure all users can enjoy the park at the same time.

While visiting any of the parks in Pima County, please abide by all signs and rules to ensure you and your pet have an enjoyable and safe time in the park.

Dog Park Guidelines

  • Owners are responsible for the actions of yourself and your pet and accept the risk of damage and/or injury caused by other dogs utilizing the park.
  • All dogs must be leashed outside the boundaries of the off-leash area, including to and from the parking area. (PC Ordinance 6.04.030A)
  • Dog waste must be cleaned up immediately by owner. (PC Ordinance 6.04.030E)
  • Dog owners must stay in the off-leash area within view of their dogs and have a leash in hand at all times.
  • Aggressive dogs are not permitted on the premises and must be removed at the first sign of aggression.
  • Dogs that create a nuisance or noise disturbance in any area must be immediately removed from premises.
  • No female dogs in season are allowed.
  • All dogs must wear collars with a current Pima County license and must be up-to-date on all vaccinations.
  • Keep children and infants under strict supervision.
  • Dog owners must fill any holes dug by their dog.
  • Smoking is NOT permitted in the dog park.
NOTE: To promote canine health and dog owner safety please remove all balls, bowls, toys, chairs and other personal items when exiting the facility. Unattended property shall be disposed.

In consideration of the benefit derived from your use of dog parks, you agree to assume all risk inherent in the use of these facilities and release Pima County from any damage claims arising by reason of your use of the facility, including damages and injury caused by the acts of other users and their animals.

    The following locations are maintained by the Pima County Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation department.

    Ann Day Community Park

    7601 North Mona Lisa Road (Mona Lisa Road and Magee Road) 
    Features: Double entry gates, divided small and large dog areas, doggie fountain, waste bag dispenser, tables and benches.

    Arthur Pack Park

    9101 North Thornydale Road (Thornydale and Overton)
    Features: Double entry gates, divided small and large dog areas, doggie fountain, waste bag dispenser, dog features/obstacles, benches and picnic tables.

    Brandi Fenton Memorial Park – Austin Fitzgerald Memorial Dog Park

    3482 East River Road (River Road and Dodge Road)
    Features: Double entry gates, divided small, medium, and large dog areas, doggie fountains, waste bag dispenser, benches, tables, shaded areas, and lighting.

    E.S. Bud Walker Park

    290 W. 5th St., Ajo
    Features: Double entry gates, divided small and large dog areas, waste bag dispenser, tables and
    shaded areas.

    Flowing Wells Park

    5510 North Shannon Road (north of Curtis Road)
    Features: Double entry gates, divided small and large dog areas, doggie fountains, waste bag dispenser, and benches.

    4000 East River Road (River Road and Pontatoc Road)
    Features: Double entry gates, one area for dogs of all sizes, doggie fountain, waste bag dispenser, benches, and shade ramada.

    McDonald District Park

    4100 North Harrison Road (Harrison Road and Prospect Lane)
    Features: Double entry gates, divided small and large dog areas, doggie fountain, waste bag dispenser, benches, tables, some shaded areas, and lighting.

    Star Valley Park

    6852 West Brightwater Way (Brightwater Way and Wade Road)
    Features: Double entry gates, divided small and large dog areas, doggie fountain, waste bag dispenser, tables and benches.

    It is very important that dog owners that use our off leash facilities familiarize themselves with the posted rules. No aggressive dogs are allowed at these facilities.
