  • Vesely named Director of Reform Initiatives

    Kate Vesely has been named Director of Reform Initiatives for the County’s Criminal Justice Reform Unit.
    Vesely has served as director of Specialty Court Initiatives in the Pima County Attorney’s Office since 2015.  In that capacity, she managed the highly successful Drug Treatment Alternative to Prison program, identifying individuals with serious addiction and diverting them to residential substance abuse treatment and a specialized probation caseload.

    “Kate has extensive experience in the field of justice reform as her many accolades and awards attest,” said Wendy Petersen, assistant county administrator. “They speak to her hard work and determination to improve the quality of life for those involved in the criminal justice system in our community.”

    Vesely was instrumental in creating and funding the Consolidated Misdemeanor Problem Solving Court in 2019 and securing funding of $2.75 million for both programs.
    Since 2008, Vesely has coordinated all aspects of the Southern Arizona Crisis Intervention Training for the Tucson Police Department, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the Pima County Attorney’s Office.
    Since serving the County Attorney’s Office, Vesely has been actively involved in many programs in connection with the Criminal Justice Reform Unit, including the Jail Population Review Committee, the Safety+Justice Community Collaborative. She also has regularly attended and given presentations to the Criminal Justice Reform Advisory Commission.  
    The Criminal Justice Reform Unit is part of the County Administrator’s OfficeVesely starts her position March 3.
