Procurement AwardIn 1995, the National Purchasing Institute (NPI) established an award program designed to recognize organizational excellence in public procurement. The prestigious Achievement of Excellence in Procurement® (AEP) is awarded annually to those organizations that demonstrate excellence, innovation, professionalism, productivity, and leadership attributes of the best-in-class procurement organizations. NPI is about education and networking for its members and other professionals associated with public sector procurement and supply management. NPI is the Official Public Sector Purchasing Affiliate of the Institute for Supply Management (ISM).

In addition to NPI and ISM, the AEP is also sponsored by the California Association of Public Purchasing Officers (CAPPO), Florida Association of Public Purchasing Officers (FAPPO), The National Institute of Governmental Purchasing (NIGP), the National Association of State Procurement Officials (NASPO), the National Association of Educational Buyers (NAEB), and the Texas Public Purchasing Association (TxPPA).

In 2004, the first year that Pima County participated in the competition, NPI made this award to 104 Cities, Counties and Public Agencies. Arizona agencies that received the award include the State of Arizona, Pima County and City of Tucson. Each year since the initial recognition and award Pima County Procurement has improved its practices and systems, participated in the competition and received the award.

NPI's 2014 award recognizes Pima County's consecutive year achievements and above average performance to other public procurement agencies. “Pima County is one of only 14 government agencies in Arizona and one of only 43 counties in the United States to receive the award.  Pima County has received the award for 10 consecutive years."

The Procurement Department is committed to continuous improvement and is very proud to accept this award and recognition on behalf of the County Administrator , Board of Supervisors and all County employees.
