The Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2012 (commonly referred to as the Biggert-Waters Act) was passed in Congress in July of 2012. The purpose of the bill was to reform the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) to make the program more economically sound by increasing flood insurance premiums to reflect the true flood risk.
