Two weeks ago, the leaders of PetSmart Charities® in Phoenix read the news about how Pima Animal Care Center (PACC) is caring for nearly 1,000 dogs and cats in a shelter that's built for less than half that number. They wanted to help PACC get some much-needed breathing room, so they awarded the organization an $8,000 grant to host this weekend’s free Empty the Shelter Adoption Event at the shelter and four PetSmart stores!
PACC dog“We’re so grateful that our friends at PetSmart Charities® are stepping up to help our pets in their time of need,” PACC’s Chief of Operations, Kristin Barney, said. “With our community’s support, we can beat our goal of sending 200 deserving pets home!”

Staff and volunteers will be bringing adoptable dogs to the following PetSmart locations from 10 to 4 on Friday, Oct. 17, and Saturday, Oct. 18: Broadway and Pantano, Grant and Swan, Orange Grove and I-10 and Irvington and I-19. All dog adoption fees will be waived, so adopters will only have to pay the $15 license charge.

PACC will be offering FREE adoptions on cats, dogs, puppies and kittens all weekend long at its Silverbell Rd. shelter, too.

About Pima Animal Care Center: As our community’s only open-admission shelter, PACC, 4000 N. Silverbell Road, cares for about 24,000 pets each year and is the only shelter in the county that cares for every pet who is brought to its doors. PACC is also our community’s largest adoption agency, and has the largest selection of dogs, cats, puppies and kittens. For more information about PACC, please visit
