Pima County Regional Flood Control District and the City of Tucson invite the public to an open house on Thursday, Dec. 4, about the Ruthrauff Basin Management Plan.

The open house will be 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Ellie Town Flowing Wells Community Center, 1660 W. Ruthrauff Road, with a brief presentation at 6:30 p.m.

Ruthrauff Basin Management PlanThe management plan will identify flood areas and drainage problems in the Ruthrauff Basin, south of the Rillito River and adjacent to Interstate 10 and the Union Pacific Railroad. The plan will also develop cost-effective solutions to reduce or manage flooding.

The Ruthrauff Basin drains north to the Rillito River and west into the Santa Cruz River.

The area is subject to frequent and substantial sheet flow and ponding of stormwater because it is fairly flat and lacks adequate drainage structures.

The plan will have recommended solutions, which could either be structural, like a channel; or non-structural, like an ordinance. At this point, there is no specific funding source for paying for these solutions. However, the plan will include an implementation component that describes possible funding sources and phasing that might be necessary for the solutions to occur.
