  • HIV Testing Requirements

    Patient Testing Recommendation

    • Screen anyone with signs or symptoms consistent with HIV infection or an opportunistic illness characteristic of AIDS
    • All clients aged 13-65 should be tested at least once in their lifetime
    • Persons at high risk for HIV infection should be screened for HIV at least annually
    • Patients seeking treatment for TB and/or STDs should be screened routinely for HIV
    • Patients that believe they may have been exposed to HIV or have had risk behaviors can test two weeks after the exposure with 4th generation testing and follow-up testing per CDC guidelines
    • HIV testing must be voluntary (opt-out) and free from coercion. Patients must not be tested without their knowledge
