Pima County Department of Environmental Quality (PDEQ) is hosting an open house on the proposed Materion Ceramics, Inc. revised air quality operating permit on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015. The open house will be held at Sunnyside High School, 1725 E. Bilby Road in Tucson from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.
Materion Ceramics, Inc. currently operates in Pima County at 6100 S. Tucson Blvd. in Tucson, Arizona, under an air quality permit issued by PDEQ.
PDEQ staff will be available to answer questions from the public regarding the proposed air quality permit revision, including permit requirements, PDEQ enforcement of proposed permit provisions, and the results of the PDEQ/Sunnyside Unified School District Beryllium Monitoring Project. At the open house, the public will be able to review, ask questions, or to drop off written comments about the proposed revised permit.
The proposed revised air quality permit requires Materion Ceramics, Inc. to operate and maintain a continuous particle emission monitoring system in conjunction with existing air pollution control equipment. As with all industries issued PDEQ air quality permits, PDEQ inspectors will perform unannounced inspections at Materion Ceramics, Inc. to assure compliance with permit requirements.
The official public comment period for the proposed permit revision began on Jan. 5, 2015, and will end on Feb. 4, 2015. Copies of the permit revision application and relevant background material may be reviewed at the PDEQ website or during normal business hours at the PDEQ offices, 33 N. Stone Ave., Suite 700, in Tucson. For additional information, please call (520) 724-7400.
