cats at shelterAdoption fees for all animals at the Pima Animal Care Center are being waived for the remainder of March due to an unusually high number of animals being brought to the shelter. On March 5 alone, the shelter took in 106 animals.

“We are not certain what is driving this large number of pet surrenders,” said José Ocaño, shelter director. “But we are quickly running out of space. Two weeks ago, we had 540 animals in the shelter. Today it is 720. In an effort to save more lives, we are waiving the adoption fee and hope the community can help us by opening their homes to a new pet.”

The shelter is open from noon to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Licensing fees of $15 per adult dog will still be applicable.
