girl scout rapelSharon Bronson, chair of the Pima County Board of Supervisors,  joined about 75 other brave souls March 28 to rappel off the side of an 18-story building at 5151 E. Broadway Blvd. to raise money for Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona.

The “Go Over the Edge with Girl Scouts” event raises money for the more than 14,000 scouts in Pima, Cochise, Santa Cruz, Greenlee, Graham and Yuma counties. Funds will help with field trips, sports, skill-building, clinics, community service projects, social justice programs, cultural exchanges and environmental stewardship.

Bronson raised more than $6,500, according to the Girl Scouts’ website.

Bronson wrote on the donation page for “Over the Edge” that she’s making the plunge because, “life is a risky business. We can react to risk and to life in several ways.  We can shrink from it in fear or embrace it with courage and confidence.  The Girl Scouts teaches girls from across the United States how to develop the necessary courage, strength of character and confidence to become tomorrow’s leaders and innovators.”
