Orange Grove Road was widened to a 5-lane roadway section, with 2 lanes in each travel direction, and a two way left turn lane in the center. Rubberized asphalt was utilized to reduce sound levels from vehicle travel for the local residents.
To enhance multi-modal transportation, bike lanes were included in the roadway section and a 5-foot wide multi-use asphalt path was installed along the north side of Orange Grove Road.
The existing box culvert in the Pegler Wash was widened to provide greater flow capacity. The at-grade flow crossing of the unnamed wash along Orange Grove Road was improved for vehicular flow and reduced maintenance, with erosion control measures installed for stabilization along the wash.
The intersection at Shannon Road was upgraded with new signal cabinets, controllers and other traffic signal appurtenances.
Additional funding was provided to include intersection improvements at Camino de la Tierra. The asphalt was milled and resurfaced, curb ramps were modified, and the traffic signals were upgraded.
Landscaping was installed along the length of the project on both sides of Orange Grove Road.
Public Art is another vital component of this project, with input from local residents during several art committee workshops. Two seating benches along the multi-use path and one free-standing art piece at the intersection of Orange Grove Road and Shannon Road will be installed Spring 2015.
