drive less logoThe Pima County Department of Environmental Quality’s Clean Air Program is asking everyone to take a pledge to drive less for healthy air.

Carpooling, taking public transit, walking or riding a bike once a week instead of driving by yourself will reduce your contribution to air pollution and save you money. Additionally, if you take the "Drive-Less" Pledge for Healthy Air, you might win a $100 gift card.

“The good news is that by skipping a trip just once a week you can single-handedly save more than 1,000 pounds of air pollution in one year,” said Beth Gorman, Pima County DEQ senior program manager. “We will also reap other benefits such as reducing congestion, saving money, meeting new neighbors and colleagues, and getting more exercise. As a whole, about 21,000,000 miles are driven in Pima County each day, so taking a ‘no-drive’ or ‘drive-less’ day will make a difference if we each take a turn during the week.”

The "Drive Less" pledge must be taken by June 15 to be eligible for the prize drawing. Information about the pledge and the Healthy Air Is In Our Hands campaign is available on the Pima County DEQ website or by calling (520) 724-7446.
