INVITATIONPima County invites everyone to a Grand Opening celebration from 9 a.m. to noon May 2 marking the completion of the newest section of The Loop: The Paseo de las Iglesias.

The event will be pedestrian and family-friendly, with walking tours offered to learn about the history, ecology and archeology of the area. Many activities will be featured, including a children’s bike rodeo, community garden tour, calligraphy lessons and a mini food truck roundup.

The Paseo, part of the Santa Cruz River Park, runs from Silverlake Road to Ajo Way, and connects to the Julian Wash Greenway. It is also part of the historic Anza Trail.

The dedication ceremony will be at 9 a.m. and a children’s bike rodeo will be at 10 a.m. There will be free bike bells, water bottles and children’s bike helmets (while supplies last). Free screwbean mesquite seedlings will also be available, and presentations will be given on desert archeology and the Anza trail.

Bike helmets are required by law for children under the age of 18, and recommended for everyone wanting to participate in the ride.
