rescued dogIt was raining cats and dogs early Wednesday morning when Pima County Sheriff’s Deputy Russell Gibson came to the rescue of a beautiful lady named “Lola.”

The 14-year veteran was on his way to a low-priority call around 8 a.m. when he spotted a dog in the middle of the street near East Drexel Road and South Campbell Avenue.

“It was in the middle of a downpour and he knew she was going to get hit,” said Deputy Thomas Peine. “He stopped and opened his door and without any convincing, she just jumped right in.”

Gibson continued on to his call for service and Lola remained inside the air-conditioned patrol car. When Gibson wrapped up the call a short time later, he found information on the dog’s collar that led him to her owners, Peine said.

Within minutes, Lola was reunited with her much-relieved humans.
