After ten years of hosting the Grease Collection and Recycling Event on the day-after-Thanksgiving, Pima County’s Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department has moved the event to Jan. 9, 2016 giving folks an opportunity to collect grease from all their holiday cooking.
Since the first event began in 2005, RWRD along with community partners Edge Group, Grecycle, Pima Association of Governments, and the Town of Sahuarita has collected approximately 28,000 pounds of used cooking oils and kitchen grease to recycle into biodiesel, a cleaner burning fuel for the environment.
This tradition began as part of RWRD’s efforts to teach the community how to properly dispose of used cooking oil and grease and prevent a sanitary sewer overflow (SSO), which is the backup of raw sewage into the street, a home, and a business.
Please join the Pima County Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department and community partners on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., at the these locations:
