Training

By far the best way to be prepared for any emergency is to learn everything you can about the wide variety of topics that relate to emergency preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation.

As a citizen of Pima County and any of its cities and towns, you can help prepare yourself by taking Community Emergency Response Team and Red Cross trainings on AED/CPR and First Aid. See the Are You Ready? page for information on these trainings and much more.

If you are an employee or volunteer with any type of emergency response or emergency management organization, there is a wide range of courses available for you to expand your knowledge base.

Many of these courses are available online, at the Emergency Management Institute's Independent Study Page. These courses can be completed when and where you like, at your own pace. Click the link below to visit their site and view their online course listing.

There are also some courses that are available only in the classroom. Many of these courses are offered within Arizona, some in Tucson. Normally, these courses are offered for free. To view a Statewide listing of locally offered courses, visit the eCatalog available at the Arizona Division of Emergency Management and Military Affairs (DEMA) Training page linked below.

Some classroom courses are held exclusively at the Emergency Management Institute. You will need to apply for enrolment; for most courses you will need to be associated with an appropriate organization or employed in an appropriate field. Normally, all expenses for these resident courses, except for food expenses, are covered by FEMA.
