Stargazing events set for January at
Canoa Ranch, Agua Caliente Parks
Pima County Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation is hosting “A Night Under the Stars” at the
Historic Hacienda de la Canoa in Green Valley on Jan. 9 and at
Tucson’s Agua Caliente Park on Jan. 16.

The event at Canoa Ranch, 5375 S. I-19 Frontage Road, will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 9 and will feature volunteers from the Sonora Astronomical Society who will help visitors use telescopes for their celestial viewing and offer an educational introduction to the night sky.
The Jan. 16 event at Agua Caliente Park, 12325 E. Roger Road, also will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Volunteers from the Tucson Amateur Astronomy Association will assist visitors with telescopes.
Although the stargazing doesn’t start until 6 p.m. at Canoa Ranch, participants can come to the ranch at 5 p.m. to enjoy a self-guided tour of the Historic Hacienda de la Canoa headquarters before stargazing. Docents will be on hand to share stories of the people who lived and worked on the ranch.
Flashlights are recommended for after-dark walking and visitors can bring lawn chairs if they would like.
Both events are free and family-friendly and will be held, weather permitting. For more information on the Canoa Ranch event, contact Valerie Samoy at 724-5220 or visit the
Canoa Ranch website. Visitors also may call 520-349-5026 if they are unsure about weather conditions. To check on the Agua Caliente event, email
eeducation@pima.gov or call 520-615-7855. A recorded message will let visitors know if the event has been canceled.
