    Acquisition of the 2,700-acre Empirita property contains the last remaining portions of private land that comprised the original Empirita Ranch within the Cienega Corridor, of which the Pima County Regional Flood Control District had purchased a number of years ago. Its size and close proximity to the County’s Cienega Creek Natural Preserve, Bar V Ranch and the Las Cienegas Conservation Area and Forest land, contribute to large-scale conservation of diverse habitat communities and ecological function.
