    Staff from Pima County Natural Resources, Parks & Recreation will be on hand at the Tucson Conquistadores Classic golf tournament March 18-20 at the Omni Tucson National Resort helping the family of Christina-Taylor Green to raise funds for renovations to a Pima County Park named in her honor.

    CT Green ParkChristina-Taylor was the youngster killed in the Jan. 8, 2011, shootings that claimed the lives of five others and wounded Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.

    The CTG Memorial River Park fundraising booth will be located in Expo Alley at the golf tournament. Volunteers will staff the booth 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday.

    The Green family is partnering with NRPR and the Arizona-Sonoran Desert Museum to raise $85,000 for renovations to the River Park. Donors have given more than $17,000 thus far.

    Items available this weekend at the booth for silent auction are:
    • A signed jersey and bobblehead from Los Angeles Dodger pitcher Hyun-jin Ryu.  He signed with the Dodgers in 2012 and made Major League Baseball’s All-Rookie Team in 2013.
    • Two sets of four Dodger MVP field-level tickets
    • Omni Tucson National Resort – two-night stays in Mountain Vista Room (three sets)
    • Three rounds of golf for four with cart at Omni Tucson National Resort
    • Roxanna Green turquoise butterfly necklace with her signed book As Good as She Imagined
    Specifically, the renovations to the park will:
    • Add a central seating plaza with decorative concrete and statue surrounded by a butterfly garden;
    • Create a botanical trail with a variety of plants identified by legend;
    • Preserve existing trees and stormwater harvesting

    “This is meant to be a place where families and children can enjoy the beauty of desert gardens in a park setting that celebrates the spirit of a young girl and her love for butterflies,” Valerie Samoy, special assistant with NRPR, said.

    Supporters who cannot attend the golf tournament can also make donations through a Go Fund Me campaign or by check to the Parklands Foundation with CTG in the memo line and mailed to:
    Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation
    3500 W. River Rd
    Tucson, AZ 85741

    All donations are tax-deductible.
