Valencia Road RTA project now complete

On April 21, Pima County and Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) officials, along with several members of the community gathered to celebrate the completion of phase two of the Valencia Road, Mark Road to Wade Road roadway project.

Valencia Road dedicationThis project was included in the RTA’s Roadway Improvement Plan approved by Pima County voters in 2006, which proposed that the two-lane arterial would be converted into a “desert parkway” that provides multi-modal transportation improvements.

The project made significant improvements that have not only enhanced safety, but also reduced congestion, improved operations and increased mobility for current and future traffic needs. Improvements include a widened roadway from two to four lanes, installation of a raised center median, added bike lanes and sidewalks, drainage improvements, and intersection work at Camino Verde and Wade Road.

The final phase of this project, which will include similar improvements from Wade Road to Ajo Highway, is currently under design.
