  • Kino Sports Complex hosts 2nd Annual All-Star Games

    Baseball at Kino Class of 2016 senior baseball players from over 18 Southern Arizona schools will take the field one last time to play in the 2nd Annual Garb Athletics/OC Sports Southern Arizona High School All-Star Games at Kino Sports Complex May 31 – June 1.

    The already-graduated players represent schools from Arizona’s Interscholastic Association Divisions 2,3,4 and 5. Coaches from each high school nominated two to three players to participate. 

    The Kino Baseball League started the competition last year and has also taken the lead in organizing this year’s events.  

    “It’s a fun event to recognize the players for a good season,” said Bill Leith, Kino Baseball League president.

    Games start at 7 p.m. each day at Kino Veteran’s Memorial Stadium, 2500 E. Ajo Way. General admission is $5 for adults, $2 for students with school ID, and free for kids 12 and under. Visitors can enjoy free parking and purchase food items from the Stadium’s concessions.

    On May 31, players from Divisions 3, 4 and 5 will square off in the first All-Star Game. Tucson area schools represented include, Amphi, Catalina Magnet, Cholla, Palo Verde, Desert View, Empire, Pueblo, Pusch Ridge, and St. Augustine. Players from several other Southern Arizona high schools will also participate in Tuesday’s game. Those schools include Bisbee, Douglas, Safford, Sahuarita, Thatcher, Coolidge, Florence, Morenci, Nogales, Rio Rico, Valley Union, and Walden Grove.

    The action continues June 1 with the Division 2 game. The senior players in Wednesday’s game represent mostly Tucson area schools. They are Tucson High, Canyon Del Oro, Mountain View, Marana, Sunnyside, Cienega, Sabino, Sahuaro, Catalina Foothills, Salpointe Catholic, Ironwood Ridge, Rincon and Buena from Sierra Vista.
