What do Zumba, tobacco experiments, and food demonstrations have in common? Pima County youth will be gathering to experience them all at an upcoming youth summit focused on health and wellness.

The Pima County Health Department, in collaboration with the University of Arizona and YMCA of Southern Arizona, will host two Student Wellness Advocacy Team (S.W.A.T.) youth summits this year.

The participants will gather to learn about nutrition, physical activity, and tobacco prevention with an overall theme of how they can make long lasting changes in their community.

The first Summit, geared toward middle school students:
    Date: Thursday, Feb. 28
    Time: 9 a.m.
Place: Mulcahy YMCA at Kino Community Center, 2805 E. Ajo Way

The second Summit, aimed at high school students:
    Date: Friday, March 8
    Time: 9 a.m.
Place: DoubleTree Hotel, Reid Park, 445 S Alvernon Way

The Youth Summits will include an estimated 150 students at each event, representing 23 schools from seven school districts. They have been working throughout the school year to improve the health of all students, staff, administrators and their surrounding communities.

The Summits will give students the opportunity to gain and build skills targeted at improving the health of themselves and others throughout Pima County.
