  • Dispose-A-Med Strategic Goals


    1. Establish Pima County Dispose-A-Med as a model program for proper disposal of medication.
    2. Promote the program as a partnership model. Communicate outcomes in visible and credible venues: conferences, legislative events, shared information and progress with elected officials.
    3. Coordinate across jurisdictions by sharing information related to schedules of take back events, expense management for destroying substances, acquisition of med boxes, community partners for collection sites, legislation or actions by government and law enforcement agencies, and funding for a public education program.
    4. Increase public awareness of the consequences of improper disposal of medications, including water contamination (Environment); abuse and misuse of medications (Behavioral Health & Public Safety). Conduct public presentations with established groups in community such as Lions Clubs, Optimists, Rotary, School Districts, Healthcare providers, Assisted Living sites.
    5. Create online reporting tool to enable jurisdictions to easily report metrics. Web-based access for registered users linked to the PCHD Dispose-A-Med website. Metrics to include attendance at events, weight of collections, total amount of donations collected, list of partners who supported effort. (Estimated $7500-$10,000 expense or possible internships with UA or PCC).
    6. Recruit, train and orient Dispose-A-Med interns and volunteers to support program. Funding needed for interns. Goal is to have between 4-10 volunteers and 1 intern.
    7. Create value and exposure for program partners. Create packages which provide benefit and exposure for businesses and partners to advocate and promote the program. $500-10,000 levels.
    8. Seek grant opportunities from corporate foundations and businesses. Secure funding to cover conservative advertising effort and recognition program for social organizations who champion the Dispose-A-Med effort.
    9. Design program collateral with key partners, location and critical information to build brand and visibility. Power Point Presentation, pull up banners, signage, rack cards, magnets and flyers (eflyers), PSAs and utilize member’s websites.
