Aviation Parkway is an east/west roadway located east of the Tucson Metropolitan Area (TMA). Aviation Parkway is classified as a principle arterial roadway that serves the downtown metro area of Tucson. A segment of Aviation Parkway is located underneath the Palo Verde Road Overpass. The roadway cross section includes two lanes in each direction with raised concrete median island and parallel curb and gutters. In the middle of the project area is a horizontal curve.
A detailed crash analysis was completed in July 2012 on Aviation Parkway segment between Richey Boulevard and at a terminus distance of 440 feet east of Technical Drive/Dodge Boulevard. From this report came several recommended improvements. The Aviation Parkway Richey to Technical Drive project addressed several of these recommendations including extending the existing Jersey barrier around the horizontal curve, the addition of street lights along the horizontal curve, and enhancements to the signing and marking.
