Old Courthouse OverhaulThe final phase of demolition on the interior of the Old Pima County Courthouse began Monday, August 22. Planners estimate the work will wrap up by October 31. It is part of a larger overhaul of the historic building— the first in 88 years.

In the meantime, the Courthouse’s perimeter gates will be locked but the public still will be able to access the sidewalk north of the building and the breezeway to its south most of the time.

Exceptions will be made for a pair of planned events this Fall in Downtown Tucson. Work will pause to accommodate the annual Tucson Meet Yourself festival scheduled from October 7-9 and the planned Fox Theatre Gala October 27. The courtyard also will open Thursday, August 25 to permit the Cinema la Placita film series to complete its 2016 season with one final screening.
The overall renovation of the Old Courthouse, including significant exterior rehabilitation, should run through Summer 2017. The project could begin by late October if the Board of Supervisors approves a contract at its meeting scheduled for October 18.
