Pima soccerThe Pima Community College men’s and women’s soccer season officially kicks off Aug. 27 with their home opener games at the Kino Sports Complex North Stadium.

The Pima Aztecs will host the South Mountain Community College Cougars (SMCC) from Phoenix. The men’s game will start at 4:30 p.m. and the women’s game will follow at 7 p.m. The college will sell $5 general admission tickets at the gate starting at 4 p.m. Those who present a student or military ID can get in for only $3.

The stadium will have concession items for sale. As such, visitors cannot bring outside food or beverages. Also, the stadium will check visitor bags at the gate.

The men’s soccer team currently ranks fifth in the NJCAA Division I rankings. The team defeated Paradise Valley Community College 9-0 in their home opener on Tuesday. Last year, the men’s team finished 9-0-1 at Kino making it the first time in the program’s history that the team went undefeated at home.

The women’s team also had a good run at Kino Sports Complex last year and the year before, too. The team has never lost a home game since moving to the sports venue two years ago. The Aztec women’s soccer team finished 8-0-2 last season and currently ranks ninth in their NJCAA Division I rankings.

Both teams look optimistic as they head into their home season openers against the South Mountain Cougars this Saturday. Last year, each team beat SMCC twice – at home and away.
