    Workforce Development & Supportive Workplace Environments, Community Engagement and COVID-19 Pandemic Innovation

    The Pima County Small Business Commission (PCSBC) is accepting nominations for the 2021 Small Business Awards program.

    New Eligibility Criteria for 2021

    The 2021 awards program is presented during what is hoped are the waning days of uncertainty for small businesses brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, Pima County Small Business Awards will recognize small businesses and nonprofit organizations that had a positive impact on Pima County through workforce development and maintaining a supportive workplace environment, community engagement, and providing innovation that helped employees or operations during the COVID-19 pandemic.

    The 2021 Pima County Small Business Awards will be presented to three (3) small businesses and/or nonprofits, the same as last year. At least one awardee will be located outside of Tucson city limits. Each successful applicant selected by the Pima County Small Business Commission will receive $500. Presentation of the 2021 Small Business Awards will be made in-person at a Pima County Board of Supervisors meeting.

    Eligibility Criteria:

    • Be located in Pima County (may be a branch or division of a larger company)
    • Be owned or managed by a Pima County resident
    • Be in operation for at least two (2) years
    • Employ fewer than 100 employees

    Application Procedures

    • All 2021 award nominations must but be submitted using the online application form below. 
    • Nominations may be submitted by either a small business/nonprofit organization owner/manager or by a customer or client of a small business/nonprofit organization.
    • Nomination applications must be submitted online by 5 p.m. on Friday, October 15, 2021.

    Awards Criteria

    1. *  Workforce Development & Maintaining Supportive Environments (up to 25 points value): Describe nominee’s management practices that have enhanced workforce development and a supportive and rewarding workplace environment [e.g., employee training, internships, commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion; employee safety). [250 words max].


    2. *  Community Engagement (up to 25 points value): Describe nominee’s positive contributions to public service, education and training during the COVID-19 pandemic (e.g., volunteer activities; donations; other in-kind activities) [250 words max].


    3. *  Innovation (up to 25 points value): Describe nominee’s adopted best practices and amended business operations in response to the COVID-19 pandemic that inspired employees, instilled confidence in consumers, adapted to a changing marketplace, improved productivity, resulted in implemented best practices, and/or invented a new product. [250 words max].


    4. *  Summary Statement (up to 25 points value): State why you believe the nominee should be selected a ‘2021 Small Business of the Year’ [250 words max].
