Adopt from PACCStarting Oct. 21, Pima Animal Care Center will waive the adoption fee on all pets over six months in an effort to reduce its shelter census, listed at 738 Monday afternoon. PACC officials will extend this special through the weekend at its shelter and five participating PetSmart stores.

“We desperately need the community’s help to increase pet adoptions,” said Justin Gallick, PACC’s director of community engagement.

Already this month, the shelter has taken in 1,276 pets, including 921 dogs and 355 cats. In addition, PACC expects about 55 more pets, now big enough for adoption, to return from foster homes this month.

To boost adoptions, PACC will waive the adoption fee on all dogs and cats over six months. Adopted pets will come spayed or neutered, with age-appropriate vaccinations, microchip and a free vet visit. A $17 standard licensing fee will apply to all adult dogs. The adoption fee for puppies and kittens will remain at $50.

“We really need the community’s help to place at least half, if not more, of our pets in loving homes this weekend,” Gallick said.

See all of PACC’s adoptable pets online or in person at the shelter, 4000 N. Silverbell Road. Those who can’t adopt and want to help PACC can do so by volunteering, fostering, or donating. To learn more, visit PACC’s website.
