  • Kino Sports to host baseball, rugby events Nov. 11-13

    The 5th Annual American Heroes Baseball Tournament returns to Kino Sports Complex Nov. 11 – 13 with over 20 teams from divisions 16U and 18U–many of them from Tucson, Sahuarita and Vail. There’s also a few traveling teams from Nogales, Sierra Vista, El Paso and New Mexico. 

    The games will take place at the Kino South Complex, 2500 E. Ajo Way, on fields S3-S8 starting at 8:45 a.m. on Friday, 8:30 a.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. on Sunday. Gates open one hour before the first game each day. Parking is free.

    UA rugby teamThis tournament will charge a daily admission fee for adults and students. Adults pay $5 and students between the ages of 13–17 pay $2. Kids 12 and under, military families, coaches and players will get in free. To get free admission, military families must present a valid ID, coaches must wear their credentials and players must wear their uniforms.

    Tournament proceeds will benefit the Tucson Veterans Serving Veterans, a program that provides outreach and assistance to military veterans in need of housing, employment, medical needs and moral support. 

    In honor of Veterans Day on Nov. 11, a brief opening ceremony will take place at 8:30 a.m. where the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base Honor Guard will present the colors. Also, in remembrance of the end of WWI, there will be a moment of silence at 11 a.m. to commemorate the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.

    The 2016 Rugby Sevens Championship comes to Kino Sports Complex Nov. 11–12 for the first time following a successful, two-year stint at the University of California-Berkeley (Cal). Participating Pac-12 teams include the University of Arizona, Cal, Arizona State, Colorado, Oregon, UCLA, Utah and Stanford

    This championship will take place at the Kino North Complex, 2817 E. Ajo Way, starting at 11 a.m. each day. The Pac-12 Network will cover the event with a live broadcast on Sunday. 

    Parking is free. Visitors can purchase tickets at the gate. Daily general admission costs $15. Kids 12 and under get in free.
