  • Sunset Road on pace to open first week of April

    Sunset RoadThe Pima County Department of Transportation, the Regional Transportation Authority, and their contractor, Borderland Construction are currently ahead of schedule and are continuing with various work activities on the Sunset Road: Silverbell Road to I-10 Improvement Project. The following is an update of the major work activities in progress:

    Bridge work in progress: Currently crews are working on the bridge barrier and parapet walls, grooving of the bridge deck, sidewalks on the north side of the bridge, railings and miscellaneous cleanup and signage.

    Roadway work: Currently crews are also working on completing the multi-use path, final grading for landscaping, fencing and signage, final paving and striping, including the connection to and traffic signal at Silverbell Road. In addition, work activities at the I-10 interchange are scheduled to start in the next couple of weeks.

    Pima County and Borderland Construction are working to stay on track with the scheduled work. They have identified the first week of April as an anticipated opening date for Sunset Road, which is ahead of their original completion date.

    The construction schedule may change in the event of mechanical failure or inclement weather.
