  • Pima County Housing Center Launches Financial Stability and Wellness Workshops

    File: Piggy BankStart the New Year by getting on the right track financially and personally with help from a series of workshops Jan. 24-26 sponsored by the Pima County Housing Center, United Way of Southern Arizona, the Pima County Community Land Trust, and Nova Home Loans
    The workshops run Tuesday through Thursday beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Pima County Housing Center, 801 W. Congress St. Each night, a presentation concentrating on a financial topic will be followed immediately by a companion session focusing on a wellness issue.
    “We have come to realize that financial wellness, home ownership and good health often go hand-in-hand,” said Housing Center Director, Marcos Ysmael. “We want to help people capitalize on their New Year’s resolutions to improve themselves throughout the year. These workshops are intended to help them reach those goals.”
    The first workshop on Jan. 24, “VITA” Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, will be presented by the United Way of Southern Arizona and will focus on income taxes and how to get your returns filed for FREE. It will be followed by an hour-long look at nutrition and healthy eating, presented by Pima County Community Land Trust (PCCLT). 

    On Jan. 25, “Pathway to Improve Your Credit”, presented by Nova Home Loans, will focus on how to build personal FICO credit scores. That workshop will be followed by “Stress Reduction”, presented by PCCLT.

    Lastly, on Jan. 26, “Roadmap to Home Ownership” will highlight the down payment assistance programs available in Pima County and explain the tools needed to realize the American Dream. That workshop will be followed by “Goal Setting”, presented by PCCLT.

    Tuesday, January 24
    • 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. – Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)
    • 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. – Nutrition: eat better, feel better
    Wednesday, January 25
    • 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. – Pathway to Improve Your Credit 
    • 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. – Stress Reduction: yoga & meditation

    Thursday, January 26
    • 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. – Roadmap to Home Ownership
    • 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. – Goal Setting: set goals and keep them for the New Year
