Pima County employees will not pay more for health insurance in fiscal year 2018.

Based on the recommendations of County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry and the Health Insurance Benefits Wellness Advisory Committee and the strong performance of the Health Benefits Insurance Trust, the Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to keep rates the same.
The rate County employees pay for medical insurance for themselves and their families is $66.03 per pay period. The rate for an employee alone is $35 per pay period.
Pima County adopted a self-insurance model for employee medical benefits five years ago. Since that time, the Health Benefits Insurance Trust Fund balance has grown to $21 million.
In addition, more than 80 percent of County employees now contribute to Health Savings Accounts (HSA). The HSA fund has a more than $17 million balance as result of employee contributions.
The health of Pima County’s self-insurance fund has benefitted from overall health of Pima County employees. Many employees participate in the County’s Healthy Lifestyle Premium Discounts (HLPD) program, which provides health education and encourages healthy lifestyles. In the current fiscal year, 2,380 employees received health assessments, 3,090 employees received preventive screenings and 1,482 employees earned 100 or more Healthy Lifestyle Active Points through exercise tracking.
