Rillito River PathOn Monday, Feb. 20, the Pima County Department of Transportation, Regional Transportation Authority and their contractor, Falcone Brothers & Associates will begin work along Camino de la Tierra as part of the improvement project.

The speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph just south of River Road and north of Tres Nogales Road. This will allow the contractor to work on the bridge piers, abutment and concrete retaining wall on both sides of the pathway.

Project improvements include a 12-foot wide bridge built using recycled concrete girders from a previous local bridge replacement project. Girders placement will be along the route to elevate users above Camino de la Tierra. Connections at-grade to the existing trailhead and to bike lanes on Camino de la Tierra will remain in place for continuity with the bike routes in the neighborhood.

The project is located on the Rillito River Path portion of The Loop and is located near the connection to the Santa Cruz River Path. This is a highly utilized portion of The Loop and provides benefits to pedestrians, cyclists and equestrians for transportation, recreation, health and other purposes. The project completion date is expected to be fall of 2017.

Please approach the area with caution and obey all traffic control devices. Bicyclists and motorists may wish to seek alternate routes. In the event of mechanical failure or inclement weather, the construction schedule may change.
