The project included the design and construction of a supplemental irrigation system to feed and water all the animals and plant species at the museum. Current irrigation water at the museum comes from a nearby off-site Pima County well which has not been sufficient for the need and has proved to be expensive and wasteful.
Piping, equipment and a storage tank were installed to collect and recycle wastewater from an existing on-site septic system. Wastewater is collected, treated and pumped up the hill to an underground 30,000 gallon storage tank. Water is pumped from the storage tank further up the hill to existing indoor irrigation holding ponds to supplement the Pima County well.
