    Looking for something to keep the kids busy this summer? Registration for the 2017 season for the Pima County Swim Team Program is underway.

    Six of the pools need additional participants on their teams:
    • Ajo Pool, 290 Fifth St. in Ajo;
    • Catalina Pool, 16562 N. Oracle Road in Catalina;
    • Flowing Wells Junior High School Pool, 4545 N. La Cholla Blvd.;
    • Kino Pool, 2805 E. Ajo Way;
    • Los Ninos Pool, 5432 S. Bryant Ave., and
    • Manzanita Pool, 5110 S. San Joaquin Ave.
    All remaining teams have the needed number of participants.
    “We’re not sure why, but year after year, these teams have fewer participants than our other pools,” said Grant Bourguet, swim team program manager.

    The Swim Team Program, led by Pima County’s Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation department, is open to kids ages 5 to 18 and costs only $20 for the whole summer, this includes all practices and swim meets.

    Registration continues through June 18, or until the team reaches max capacity. Team sizes vary between 60 to 100 participants, depending on the pool.

    The first practice starts May 30. The season runs May 30-July 22. Swim meets are held Saturday mornings or nights during June and July, beginning June 10.  Meets will continue through the Championship meet on July 22.
