Feldman’s Neighborhood is bounded by Lee Street on the north, Speedway Boulevard on the south, Park Avenue on the east and Stone Avenue on the west. It is densely populated and has heavy pedestrian traffic throughout the entire week.
This project addressed two elements of need for the pedestrians in the Feldman’s community: substandard & nonexistent infrastructure. The project succeeded in modifying and repairing deteriorating 70-year-old sidewalks, installing new ADA ramps and alleyway connectivity paths to achieve ADA accessibility. Most importantly, the project included the installation of sidewalk where there were gaps and new sidewalks on many of the neighborhood streets which had none.
The focus of the work was on First Avenue, Fourth Avenue, Drachman Street, and Helen Street.
Construction of new concrete sidewalk and ADA access ramps allows for greater neighborhood connectivity and accessibility for residents of the neighborhood, as well as Univeristy of Arizona students who now safely walk to and from class. The completed project yielded 59,365 SF of sidewalks and 95 ADA ramps throughout the neighborhood.
Post constructions surveys have been very positive and offer many accolades to the County for this and other surrounding NR projects.
