Pima County Department of Transportation and two of its contractors,
Durazo Construction and
Kittle Design and Construction have a project underway to improve customer comfort and accessibility at some of the most heavily used
Sun Tran bus stops throughout Pima County.
Over the next two months, crews will install 33 new Sun Tran passenger shelters at bus stop locations throughout unincorporated Pima County. Additional improvements include new concrete boarding areas, short sections of sidewalks, and sidewalk ramps to make these shelters fully accessible to wheelchair users in
compliance with the
American with Disabilities Act.
The
Federal Transit Administration has provided $400,000 in funding, with Pima County providing a 20 percent match of $100,000. These improvements compliment bus stop improvements done by the
City of Tucson to create system-wide improvements for all Sun Tran bus riders.
This
map illustrates the location of the 33 bus stops which are already in progress. These stops are located in four general areas: Flowing Wells, Palo Verde/Benson Highway Corridors, Drexel Heights, and Ina Road.
