The 1997 Transportation HURF Bond Ordinance includes $20M of bond funding for Houghton Road, Golf Links Road to Interstate 10. This project, Houghton Road: Irvington to Valencia, is the first phase to reach substantial completion. All phases are managed and delivered by Tucson Department of Transportation.
Project scope and brief description:
• Widen Houghton Road to 4-lanes north of Speedway and 6-lanes south of Speedway.
• Addition of bike lanes, sidewalk and multi-use path.
• Access control (median separation).
• Intersection improvements including new signalization.
• Bus pull outs.
• Addition of second bridges (Pantano Wash, Agua Caliente Wash, Tanque Verde Creek).
• New bridge over UPRR.
• Drainage improvements and all-weather crossings.
• Landscaping that maintains the scenic corridor and utilizes water harvesting.
• Public art.
• Wildlife sensitive design.
