  • Help Paint Pima Purple again this year

Pima County is participating again in the Paint Pima Purple campaign, designed to raise awareness and help eradicate domestic abuse. Counties employees are encouraged to join in the simple campaign activities both at home and at work to help mark Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October.Emerge!

Paint Pima Purple is an initiative of Emerge! Center Against Domestic Abuse and the Pima County Attorney’s Office in partnership with Pima County and local businesses and nonprofit organizations.

More information about the Paint Pima Purple campaign can be found at www.emergecenter.org or on social media (Instagram, Facebook and Twitter) @EmergeTucson. Please note: the paintpimapurple.org website used in previous years is no longer updated.

Throughout the month of October, here are simple things you can do to participate:
    • Wear a purple ribbon or sticker throughout the month
    • Display a purple ribbon or Emerge! bumper sticker on your car
    • Place a purple ribbon at the bottom of every email you send
    • Post domestic violence awareness information through your social media connections or website
    • Change outdoor light bulbs to purple (sold at Home Depot!)
    • Set up a Paint Pima Purple display or post information in your work area
    • Share Emerge’s domestic abuse informational email campaign with your family, friends, coworkers and community: sign up to receive these emails on the Emerge website
    • Check out the Paint Pima Purple calendar on Emerge’s website to get connected with what’s happening around town

Thursday, Oct.19, is Wear Purple Day.  All Pima County employees are encouraged to wear purple on that day. October 27th is the Tucson Stuff-the-Truck donation drive for Emerge! Center Against Domestic Abuse. People can drop off donated items to help victims of domestic abuse from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Rincon UCC, 122 N. Craycroft Road (cross streets: Craycroft and Broadway).

Items Needed for Stuff the Truck on Oct. 27:
    • Gift Cards - grocery stores, Target, Walgreen’s, Walmart, Amazon, etc.
    • NEW Bath and Hygiene Items: shampoo, conditioner, soap, body wash, toothpaste, toothbrushes, lotion, deodorant, razors, tampons/pads, hair brushes
    • NEW Undergarments (all sizes): socks and underwear for women, girls, and boys; and sports bras

Domestic violence affects thousands of families in Pima County every year and has a significant toll on the entire community.

Children who grow up in these households, even if they are not abused, are more likely to have significant health risk factors later in life. When victims and survivors aren’t supported or don’t receive help, their lives are disrupted and their productivity at work suffers.

Repairing the injuries and wounds that abusers inflict on their families represent significant health care costs. Our community has the solution to ending domestic abuse.

This year, Emerge! is asking -  will you answer the call to end domestic abuse in Pima County?
