  • New IT security manager a familiar face

There’s a new Security Manager in IT who may look familiar.

Jim McDougall returned to Pima County, where he previously worked for four years, after a brief respite with the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

“Security is a never ending project,” McDougall said. mcdougall

McDougall previously worked for IT as a business analyst, where he helped to implement the Justware case management system for the Public Defender’s Office, another case management program for the Public Fiduciary and numerous programs with the Library.

McDougall first learned the value of secure information systems serving 25 years in the U.S. Navy. During his service he served in California; Norfolk, Va.; Washington, D.C.; and in Japan aboard the U.S.S. Midway aircraft carrier, now a floating museum docked in San Diego.

“Security is very important,” he said. “It’s something I’m passionate about.”

McDougall said he plans to continue the best practices in place at Pima County, likening computer security to washing your hands after using the restroom.

“It’s really about good habits,” he said.

Practicing good habits, McDougall said, can help prevent the type of data breaches that have made headlines across the country for the havoc they cause.

If you suspect a data theft, breach or exposure of Pima County’s Protected Data or Pima County’s Sensitive Data has occurred, contact IT with a description of what occurred at 724-8471 or through the help desk reporting webpage at http://servicedesk.pima.gov
