A new ADA compliant unisex prefabricated restroom, including utility connections, was installed by Pima County for City of Tucson Parks and Recreation. Building features include stainless steel fixtures, hand dryers, exterior sinks and an open air-short door design.
A new gate and sidewalk were included to avoid conflicts with skateboarders. Landscaping included planting and decomposed granite with water harvesting features.
This project benefits a low-income community where families with children and elderly on fixed incomes enjoy activity at this heavily used community park on St. John’s Parish property. The neighborhood association, in collaboration with Pima County Interfaith Civic Education Organization, Southern Arizona Interfaith, and St. John’s Parish, submitted a request for bond funds based on their desire to improve the health and safety of an area burdened by substantial transient and homeless populations, high traffic volume and deteriorating infrastructure. The Diocese of Tucson agreed to extend their lease for an additional twenty-five years to cover the period during which the City will maintain this facility.
This project complements the existing skate park that was previously funded by county bonds.
