  • Health Department asking guys to ‘man up’ for men’s health

The Pima County Health Department is asking men to skip shaving this month to draw attention to men’s health issues.

Men’s health advocates have dubbed November as “Movember” to focus on Bearded manmen’s health. Men experience worse longer-term health than women and die on average six years earlier, according to the Movember website.

To draw attention to the issue and have a little fun, Pima County Health Department is sponsoring a beard contest throughout the month of November. The rules:
    • Grow your beard for the month of November.
    • Submit a photo of your beard to the e-mail addres manuppima@pima.gov no later than 5 p.m. on Nov. 30.
    • Include a reason why you are choosing to help promote men’s health and/or a health message you would like to share with other men in the community. Don’t forget to attach your photo!
    • Include your name and preferred contact information (e-mail or phone number) in the body of the e-mail.
    • Only one entry will be accepted per person.
    • The top 10 pictures, with their associated message, will be featured on the Pima County Facebook page for voting.
    • Voting will be open from Dec. 4-8, closing at 5 p.m. on Dec. 8.
    • The top two winners will receive their choice between two great prizes: a new iPad OR a custom shaving kit. First place gets first choice.
    • Winners will be determined by the number of overall positive reactions received on Facebook (likes etc.).
    • Winners will be contacted no later than Dec. 11, 2017. If the winners do not claim their prize within one week of being contacted, the next eligible person will be contacted.
    • Pima County employees and their families are not eligible to win.
